A while back I had a chance to review MIRACLE MINDSET: A Mother, Her Son, and Life’s Hardest Lessons by celebrity health expert and bestselling author JJ Virgin. JJ built a strong health and wellness following working with Hollywood A-listers and every day people, writing 4 bestselling diet and health cookbooks. But in 2012, she was told to let her son go as he lay dying from a hit and run accident, and the same stamina, intuition, and determination that made her successful in the wellness industry came into play as she defied the odds and fought for his life.
The book is inspiring enough if it were just the story of how she continued to run her business while doing everything she can to bring him back to health. It's also a story of the lessons she learned along the way, lessons eh shares with readers as a guide to making their own efforts to overcome the impossible. It's also a story of her advocacy for those with brain injury.
I love her focus on self - instead of wishing things were easier, she did what she needed to do to make herself stronger. She also recognized that even if she didn't feel strong, she could make small decisions with big impacts. Above all, she recognized that forgiveness would set her free from holding that anger inside, and would ultimately be the best thing for herself and her son.
