Twin Cities parents preparing for the upcoming school year are faced with a steep list of required school supplies. According to the 2017 Huntington Backpack Index, in just the last decade the cost of supplies has risen 88 percent for elementary students, 81 percent for middle school students and 68 percent for high school students. For the over half a million children in Minnesota living in low-income homes the cost of back to school shopping can be a big burden.
The Twin Cities Salvation Army and Morrie's Automotive are teaming up to help Minnesota families in need prepare for the upcoming school year. Between now and August 18th they are asking community members to drop off a new backpack at any Morrie's location. For every backpack donated, Morrie's will contribute $10 for school supplies to fill the backpacks. The Salvation Army will be distributing the backpacks and supplies prior to the start of the 2017/2018 school year
