Mealtime Magic: Ideas from House Foods Tofu

I recently had a chance to try out some recipes thanks to House Foods Tofu. If you've never tried tofu, it's worth giving it a chance in some of these recipes!

Tofu is actually really versatile. It can be used in sweet or savory dishes, to replace protein or to add extra protein by replacing ingredients in other recipes. I've used it before in desserts like pudding and baked goods, in main meals as a feature ingredient, or "hidden" in entrees as well. The same kind of tofu doesn't necessary work in everything though - soft tofu works better for smoothies and sauces, and firmer tofu is better if it's going to need to hold its shape. For grilling, extra firm is best, although medium and firm have both worked for me for stir-fries.

Soy can be a big GMO ingredient, but all House Foods Tofu uses 100% US grown, non-GMO soybeans. It's much lower in calories than many other protein sources and has no cholesterol. It also contains a lot of iron and calcium.

Enough about the tofu, on to the recipes! These recipe came from House Foods' 50 Plates of Tofu campaign, with recipes inspired by different states. The first recipe is a great way to "hide" tofu if you have family that is reluctant to try it. Even the second one can sneak tofu past a picky eater. But if you have a bold family, check out the third and fourth recipes - and definitely check out more recipes on the House Foods website!
