Natural oils for natural hair. What can be better, simpler, and more effective? There are so many prducts out there that make promises they can’t keep. Companies are selling us bottles of stuff which claim to encourage growth, but in fact have certain ingredients which may do more harm than good in the long run.
Hair can be a fickle and emotional thing. It reacts to anything and everything that we do. It is affected by our environment, our diet, our physical well-being, and even our mood. And it is certainly affected by the products that we use on it. I began using the “no poo” method a long time ago, and I have never looked back. I grow my hair naturally, and I don’t need anything with parabens, sulfates, or harsh detergents to help it look awesome. All I need is a bit of mother nature’s finest.
These, in my opinion, are the best three essential oils for hair strengthening and growth encouragement. It may not stop you from going bald if that is where you are headed - those things are often genetic and unavoidable, - but it will keep your locks looking and feeling good. The ingredients in these oils help to hydrate and regenerate the cells.
This is actually an oil that is recommended for those of us who are suffering from some kind of hair loss. It can be applied to the scalp, and since it has strong antibacterial and antifungal agents, it can fight against irritations and infections which hasten hair loss. Castor contains antioxidants which support the elements which are already inside of your hair’s roots (keratine, sebum), and they help things run smoothly, without any complications inside or out.
Oilve oil
This is one which is found in many (I’d even say most) of the medical books of older traditions. In Chinese, Native American, and Indian practices - for example - olive oil is considered one of nature’s finest ingredients, especially when it is of the virgin cold-pressed variety. This oil is notable for its vitamin E content, and its high amounts of antioxidants and healthy acids. These substances easily slip into the hair, and provide it with a healthy boost of vitality and positivity, from root to tip.
Olive oil is also wonderful for your skin, your internal organs, and even your mental state. When your body feels good, your mind often feels good too.
This is one of the most interesting plants around. It thrives in dry, hot, desert areas (think Mexico and Arizona) and its kernels boast some of the highest concentrations of oil of any fruit. The Jojoba’s oil closely resembles the body’s natural oil, the sebum, and it is found in many cosmetics and beauty products specifically because of that.
Jojoba oil not only protects the hair against dandruff and bacteria, but it can actively reduce the amount of hair loss you experience. Jojoba moisturizes, cleans, and mends broken hairs, which means that your scalp and hair grows stronger and more resilient with ongoing use. It is best used on a daily or semi-daily basis, because with long-term use come long-term results. Using it only once in a while may give your hair a nice shine or luster, but as far as growth encouragement is concerned, you need to use it more often for the oil to have a real effect.
Using essential oils for your hair - and for general well-being - is something which I wholeheartedly recommend. Some of these oils were once considered rare and at times almost unobtainable. Consider the Australian tea tree and its oil, which was used exclusively by the native inhabitants of the continent, before Western civilization discovered and spread the word of its benefits for mind and body. And now? Everything you want is pretty much a click away. And it is something which we must be taking advantage of. The earth, and especially the plant kingdom, provides us with so much - clothing, nourishment, shelter, and beauty.
Our hair is part of who we are. Some consider this more of an issue than others, but I think it is safe to say that we are all a little saddened when we discover that hair is thinning, falling out, or becoming dry and brittle. After all, there is such a thing as a bad hair day. Why? Because our hair is an extension of ourselves, at least in some way, and we want to keep it looking as healthy and appealing as we can. Essential oils can definitely help you there, but the ones I mentioned are not the only ones out there. Do some field research, and find out which oils work best for you, your body, your scalp, and your hair.
