I recently had a chance to review Blessed in the Darkness: How All Things are Working for Your Good by Joel Osteen. Full disclosure - I'm not a fan of Joel Osteen. There are some things about him and his ministry that rub me the wrong way. That being said, there are things I think he's doing that are good, and one of them is making a connection with people who are hurting and hungry. This book shows some of the reasons why.
This book is a very positive, uplifting book. It's aimed at people who are going through any kind of struggle, whether small or large, and serves to remind them that God is with them, even in the darkness - that God can use the darkness to bless those who follow Him. It's based on Scripture, and includes practical examples and stories to make it seem more personal.
People who are used to really heavy-hitting or deep Bible studies probably won't find things they don't already know. Instead, this book will remind them of things they may not be focusing on - God's love through the storm. It's also really good for people who might have a newer or less secure faith, because it lays out basic truths of Scripture without getting embroiled in anything that might the simple message of God's love harder to see.
