My kids have always been curious. They both have a strong interest in science and are quite bright. As a homeschooling Christian mom, I'm always happy to find resources to help feed their scientific interest and strengthen their faith - I was thrilled to have a chance to review something that does both.
The author of Indescribable: 100 Devotions About God and Science is no stranger to the idea that faith and science can complement each other, rather than contradict each other. Louie Giglio write a sermon series that examines the unimaginable parts of our world - the number of stars in the sky, the minute details of insects, and the vast awesomeness of everything we live in. Now he's making that sense of discovery and awe at the intersection of faith and reason accessible to kids.
My biggest word of caution with this - don't save it for a bedtime devotion. This worked much better for us during daytime religion and science lessons, because while much of it is the same format as typical devotions (Scripture, story, application, prayer), it also includes a science section, some of which have experiments. My kids weren't satisfied with "we'll do it tomorrow," so we moved it to a daytime activity.
“There is so much to learn about what God has created—about the earth, space, our bodies, and the weather,” said Giglio. “It’s awe-inspiring! Each devotional teaches children about the coolest parts of God’s creation and will encourage kids to grow in their faith in the Creator himself. We explore the facts and learn how incredible it is that the designer of it all knows us by name. He loves us, he cares for us, and to know that is a joy that is truly indescribable.”
Louie Giglio is pastor of Passion City Church and founder of the Passion movement, which exists to call a generation to leverage their lives for the fame of Jesus.
In addition to the collegiate gatherings of Passion Conferences, Louie and his wife, Shelley, lead the teams at Passion City Church, sixstepsrecords, and the Passion Global Institute.
