Book Nook: New Drawing Books from Quarto

My kids love art (if you didn't know that by now with all the art books I review), so I was happy to review two new drawing books from Quarto - Learn to Draw Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Just for Fun: Perspective.

Learn to Draw Star Wars: The Force Awakens was definitely for the more serious artist. My younger daughter, the one who actually loves Star Wars, was fascinated just looking through the book at all the images that could be drawn. She had a harder time actually doing them, but still appreciated the book. My older daughter is starting to get into more detailed design and shading with her art, so it was much more appropriate for someone at her skill level and above. The memorable moments included with each character made it fun for both of my girls to enjoy, and this is a book that they'll definitely keep using as they grow older and get more mature drawing skills.

Just for Fun: Perspective is a great foundational book for people getting into drawing. My older daughter discovered perspective a couple years ago, and my younger one is just starting to draw with perspective. It's a great transformation to see - and this book really helped them both develop. It provided plenty of examples to help them learn what perspective is, and they learned about one-, two-, and three-point perspective and vanishing points. They also learned different techniques for how to divide a scene into parts so the perspective is accurate. It's a versatile book, including architecture, people, animals, and more.
