Thrifty Thinking: Unusual Pool Maintenance Tips You Won't Hear Anywhere Else

Pool owners are already familiar with the standard cleaning procedures they have to go through on a regular basis. Nothing beats hiring an experienced pool cleaning service like Payan Pool Services.
Still, there are some, more unusual methods you can try out which can sound kind of silly but have shown some pretty decent results. Here are things you can do to keep your pool clean and have more time for fun.
Make better use of skimmer
A skimmer is already a great tool for cleaning but you can even get out more use of it. You can use an old pair of pantyhose, wrap them around the skimmer and voila, those tiny little holes will keep hair, dirt, and sand at bay and significantly improve your routine. Make sure you wash the skimmer at least once a week.
Natural insect repellents
Bugs can be annoying. Even if you insecticide them to death, their bodies will just add up to all the cleaning you need to do. Whether they float on the surface or get stuck in the skimmer, it can be a real pain getting rid of them.
It is always better to worry about these kinds of things sooner rather than later. This kind of logic makes cleaning much easier. You can plant lemongrass around your pool. The citronella in the plant will keep away all the annoying mosquitoes.
If you have a problem with wasps, you can build a decoy nest with a brown grocery bag and fill it with other plastic bags. Wasps sure won’t build another nesting ground in a 100-meter radius of an existing, fake one.
Clean with baking soda
Baking soda is a pretty useful tool in the kitchen, but it is also an amazing cleaning agent for your pool. You can use it after a heavy rain, for example, to get those Ph levels in balance and prevent algae from developing. The best thing is that the cost of baking soda can’t even compare to some regular alkalinity products’ price.
Too many tennis balls?
No such thing, you can throw them into your pool or keep them in the skimmer if you don’t want them to be seen. Why tennis balls? Well, all the sun, body oil and hair product don’t just go away when you get out of the pool, they all stay there. Tennis balls will absorb all of this debris and keep the water clean.
Make bathing suits a house rule
Every once in a while you’d make a pool party and people will probably jump in with their clothes on. This will not do any harm in small amounts but chlorine may cause fiber dyes and frays to bleed and that makes your pool cloudy.
Go natural
It may sound a bit extreme, but a natural pool requires the least amount of maintenance. It has two parts: one is for swimming and the other is for vegetation which fills the role of a natural filter. You also need a pump to keep the water flowing either through the natural plant or gravel filter.
After you’ve done all this there really isn’t much work left. The ecosystem you made will clean itself and there is just an occasional debris removal from the bottom or some surface skimming.
