I had a chance to interview him to learn more.
What was the inspiration behind writing this book?
The book was inspired by the many patients I have seen through the years and modern brain science.
At what point should people start thinking about future brain health?
As soon as someone is old enough to start rational thought. Children should be taught that their actions will impact their brain. Brushing teeth not only protects the teeth, but also the brain. Regular physical exercise is not only good for the heart but the brain. Controlling one’s weight not only reduces diabetes but reduces dementia risk. So it is never too soon to learn.
How can people encourage their older loved ones to maintain brain health?
We can encourage them by engaging them in activities they might enjoy and is also brain healthy, dancing, walking in nature, learning new things, and teaching them the benefits of healthier diets, all the while informing them that such activities protect their brain and keep them independent longer.
