I recently had a chance to review the latest in the Lucy's Lab series - The Colossal Fossil Fiasco. This book weaves together two storylines - the family's new pet, and a special fossil rock that disappears from the classroom.
I liked a lot of things about this book. It was a good length for reluctant readers or those just getting into chapter books. It features science and a female main character. My older daughter loved the science aspect of the book, while my younger daughter really enjoyed the mystery. Blending together two different uncertainties in the same story made it a lot more realistic for kids who have a lot of questions about what's going on in life. The book had a good amount of suspense to keep beginning readers interested, and although it was a very fast read for my older daughter, she still enjoyed the book.
You can also check out the other two books in the series, Solids Liquids, Guess Who's Got Gas? and Nuts About Science.
