I recently got to review The Aging Brain (you can pre-order and download an excerpt there). Written by psychiatrist and international speaker Timothy R Jennings, M.D., it contains everyday actions that everyone can do to promote health and prevent disease. It's an easy to use guide that touches on a variety of arenas - diet, nutrition, and spiritual and mental well-being. It's clearly based on research, but it's also written in an easy-to-understand manner.
Dr. Jennings is clearly a Christian, and this does come out strongly in one chapter, but even for those who aren't Christian, he lays out the evidence for some sort of belief and spiritual support system - whatever that looks like for each individual. The recommendations will help physical and mental health as we age, and they're straightforward. Each piece of advice is a small habit change, so readers can choose where to focus first instead of trying to make massive changes all at once.
The below video is a lecture found on his website that can help you learn more.
Jennings, who maintains a private practice in Chattanooga, TN, has authored several books, including The God-Shaped Brain and The God-Shaped Heart. He has spent more than two decades researching the interface between biblical principles and modern brain science. A Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and Life Fellow of the Southern Psychiatric Association, Jennings is president and founder of Come and Reason Ministries.
