Healthy Habits: Heartburn

Has this happened to you? You’re enjoying some of your favorite summer foods, maybe a cocktail at a backyard barbeque, ball game or outdoor concert.  Then, you start to feel a burning sensation in your chest or throat or you have difficulty swallowing. These are just some of the common symptoms with the onset of heartburn.

More than 15 million Americans suffer from frequent heartburn – experiencing uncomfortable symptoms at least two times per week – and according to a new survey,* nearly half of those polled noted that quintessential summer foods like hot dogs, ice cream and lemonade were among the biggest culprits triggering their discomfort. The condition can be disruptive enough to cause sufferers to completely avoid leisure activities or social events.

Internal medicine specialist, Dr. Keri Peterson, shares:

·         Results of the national “Prevent the Summer Burn” survey of American heartburn sufferers
·         Common food triggers, plus how when you’re eating and why  can  also play a role
·         The emotional and psychological effects the condition has on some sufferers and their summer enjoyment

  • Newly available over-the-counter heartburn solution
