Immigration has always been part of our country's history. Recent political events have made immigration status more of an important issue, especially for certain families. It can be hard for children who aren't from recent immigrant families to understand some of the emotions and stories behind it. If you're in the Twin Cities area, the MN Children's Theatre is running a play called I Come from Arizona that takes a look at one aspect of this issue.

A Children’s Theatre Company World Premiere Production
Gabi Castillo, a bright, 14-year-old Mexican-American girl living on the South Side of Chicago, is accepted into a very different, elite high school. Through her Global Perspectives class, she learns secrets about her past and her parents, discovers her own inherited strength, and begins to understand what it means to take risks. In today’s world of immigration raids and Dreamers, fear and uncertainty, Gabi inspires a modern-day lesson in bravery, courage, and finding power in what seems like a powerless situation.
I Come From Arizona contains a 15-minute intermission approximately 1 hour into the show and total run time is now just under 2 hours. The age recommendation is ages 9 and up, but the best age may be in the middle school/high school range, as the story revolves around a 15-year old-girl and her family going through issues of immigration.
