Consumer Critique: Unicorn Star Projector

I recently had the chance to review a unicorn star projector from Innobeta. It was adorable. Unicorns seem to be fairly popular right now - not only does my older daughter like unicorns, but so do kids of all ages at their school. I even see other middle school kids with unicorn shirts or leggings or other products.

This projector might seem like it's just for little kids, but really anyone who likes the whimsical will enjoy it. It's sort of cuddly - I say sort of because the star mesh on the back is hard plastic, so it's not soft and squeezable. However, the rest of the unicorn is really soft, and has lovely pastel colors. The batteries are easy to change, and the projector has a pretty good ceiling coverage - crisp stars in a small area from the top bunk, or stars diffused over more of the ceiling if it's on the floor. My girls can also put it sitting up so it shines against a wall or their closet, which is a fun look.

This projector would make a great gift for any kid who likes unicorns. It's also a gentle nightlight - the stars aren't so bright that they keep someone awake (unless they prefer to sleep in a really dark room) but they are light enough to offer some ambient light for a person who is reluctant to sleep in the dark. The star shapes are a pleasant, fun way to add that light, less direct that a traditional bright night light.
