Healthy Habits: You Have the Right to Breastfeed Your Baby

Did you know that America is rated the lowest among developed countries in terms of breastfeeding?
In fact, the low breastfeeding rates lead to nearly 1,000 excess deaths and $13 billion inmedical costs annually in America.
While some may find breast feeding in public offensive, the fact is, with 8-12 feeding sessions per day, mothers will realistically need to breastfeed in public or even at work.  Most states have legislation that gives mothers the right to do just that.
Here are a few facts and tips from the infographic:
·       51.8% of infants are breastfed nationally and see how it varies state-by-state
·       Mississippi is the lowest with 23.9% and Utah is the highest with 70.4% breastfed
·       America is the ONLY developed nation that does not have laws mandating paid compensation and leave for women after giving birth
·       Know your rights: If confronted in public, try to defuse the situation with a prepared response citing the laws in your area
