MyBankTracker asked Americans how much they have set aside if they lose their job, experience a medical emergency or go thru a natural disaster. It's far from the 3-6 months of expenses that experts advise having set aside. The results are below:
- 43.3% have <$500 (109 million) – that's 2 out of 5 Americans!
- 34.5% have $0 (86.96 million)
- 14.5% don’t even know what one is (36.5 million)
- 51.6% have <$1,000 (130 million)
- 62.6% have < $5,000 (157.79 million)
The 65+ generation:
- 26% have $0 (13.2 million)
- 11.6% don’t even know what one is (5.89 million)
Methodology - The survey was conducted by Google on behalf of MyBankTracker within the United States between Sep 20-25, 2018, among a nationwide cross section of 2,014 adults (aged 18+) with a standard deviation of +/- 4.3%. Full results can be found here. The findings are representative of the U.S. Population, using the U.S. Census National Population Data and Estimates of U.S. Population by Age and Sex Data.
