I recently had a chance to review a digital version of "World War II Night Before Christmas." In this rendition, Santa visits the Allied troops in Normandy on Christmas Eve, 1944. He brings them blankets, rations, coffee, and warm winter clothes...items that the Allied troops lacked in the frigid temperatures of Normandy.
World War II is a major part of history, but somewhat challenging to bring up with kids. A book like this can help kids take a historical event that can be difficult to relate to and pair it with an image that is familiar.
Obviously Santa didn't really visit Allied troops, but reading this book can help parents talk about what historical fiction is, or begin a discussion about those who were involved in World War II. The illustrations are beautiful and very appropriate for the story, as well.
