Book Nook: Be Bold. Be Brilliant. Be You.

Katrina McGhee, best-selling author, career strategist and former EVP and Chief Marketing Officer of Susan G. Komen for a Cure, has taught thousands of corporate Americans how to be happier and more successful in their careers. Long ago, she realized that, “everyone deserves to have it all."  According to the 2018 "Women in the Workplace" study, 62% of the management positions are held by men while only 38% are held by women. McGhee asked herself why this is still the case. Her answers led her to write this book.
Whether a corporate executive, entrepreneur, or a community leader, the lessons and steps outlined in this book will help readers to:
Design a rewarding career based on your unique blend of strengths, skills, and desires.
Elevate your executive presence to get noticed and promoted for your work.
Cultivate the meaningful connections that deliver big dividends in your career
Embrace empowered living to enjoy a balanced, successful, and significant life.
Help define career halting habits that they may be making in the workplace while not even realizing it and how to change those habits.
Identify and eliminate your career halting habits to accelerate your success.

Be Bold. Be Brilliant. Be You.” reveals the roadmap for creating the life and career we all individually desire.
I had a chance to interview the author to learn more.
Why did you decide to write this book?
I am passionate about preparing women for leadership and career success. We are smart, ambitious, and desperately want to make a difference. Yet I often find us in roles where we’re unhappy, bored, or just plain burned out. For a host of reasons, we are living lives that are out of sync with our divine design. It’s unfortunate, but it doesn’t have to be permanent. It is possible to do what we love for a living, and still have a life. I wrote this book to help us get in the driver’s seat, and accelerate our way to a rewarding and fulfilling career.

What sets it apart from other career help books?
First and foremost, I focus on empowered living. At its essence it’s the belief that you have the right to choose your priorities, based on your values, and then unapologetically live by them. This extends to every area of your life – including your career. It’s a unique approach because my principles don’t depend on you finding balance by juggling your myriad of responsibilities, but instead helps you become a balanced person. From this position you are powerful beyond measure – achieving success and significance, while maintaining your sanity.

Second, my focus is on application that immediately amplifies your impact. The exercises included in each section help you take the principles you’re learning and achieve measurable results right away.

What piece of career advice do you wish you had gotten (or followed) when you were younger?
Be unafraid to pursue what interests you.

There are millions of ways to make a living. Be bold. Do what interests you. Nearly every skill can be turned into a successful career.

You are worthy of the life you desire. Be empowered and get equipped with the tools you need to lead, grow, and succeed!  For more information on the book and on Katrina McGhee please visit  www.katrinamcghee.com .
