Some people absolutely love Christian author Joyce Meyer. I don't always agree with her theologically, but I do see why she's so appealing. She does a very good job of reaching those in a certain stage of life, or a certain place in their faith life.
I had a chance to see three new books. The first was a collection of quotes, paired with Bible verses. I really enjoy quote books - they're fun to page through, and it's fun to send them to other people. I appreciated how they were paired with Scripture, and while there's always a little danger at taking Bible verses out of context when they're in little nuggets, overall these were all well-chosen and Biblically sound.
She's also written two Bible study books, one on James and one on Ephesians. I really like the book of Ephesians and James also has a lot of practical life advice. Joyce does a good job at going through the books and pulling out applicable verses. Even if you don't agree with everything she's said, I think it's a good thing to look at books from a variety of perspectives to gain a well-rounded sense of what the Bible says.
