Book Nook: Rise of the Servant Kings

Every day men ask themselves questions about how to be better fathers, husbands, friends, and men, but it can be difficult to find satisfying answers. I had a chance to be part of the launch team for Rise of the Servant Kings, which explains that true masculinity is found in absolute surrender to God, which always results in humble character and is expressed in courage and generosity. Ken Harrison weaves together his experiences as a police officer in one of the deadliest areas of the country, with many years as a business executive and ministry leader, to share deep truths for men direct from God's Word.

It can be difficult to define masculinity in today's world. The traditional roles of men are changing, and women are seeking more opportunities than before - this can cause many people to question the role of men and women. This book clearly lays out the definition of Biblical masculinity in a way that both defies some traditional norms and upholds others, all with the goal of encouraging men to surrender to God's will, and by that surrender, become leaders in the way that He intends them to.

KEN HARRISON serves as the Chief Executive Officer of WaterStone, an organization that releases resources to support Christian humanitarian efforts worldwide. Currently WaterStone gives away over $1 million each week and manages a fund of $400+ million. He started his career as a Los Angeles police officer in the infamous 77th Division of South-Central Los Angeles, better known as Watts or Compton. There he received numerous commendations and awards, including nomination for the Police Star for Bravery. After leaving the LAPD in the 1990s, Ken went into business and built a small local company into one of the largest of its kind in the United States. He has served on multiple boards, and recently stepped into the role of chairman of the board of Promise Keepers, a well-known organization ministering to Christian men. Harrison is also the author of Victims & Victors. He has been married to his wife, Elliette, for 27 years and they have three children.
