There's a new monitor that reveals the hidden energy patterns in the home - making it greener, safer and more reliable by tracking and reducing the home’s energy waste.
Every day we use energy, when we turn on a microwave, stream videos or take a shower. Dozens of devices and appliances turn off and on (or stay on) in our homes throughout the day. And we keep buying new gadgets that use more energy.
The Sense home energy monitor (sense.com) tells you what's going on in your home. Like a fitness tracker for the home, the Sense app accessible from a smartphone tells what's on, what's off, how much energy the family is using and how much it costs.
Sense is installed in the home's electrical panel and uses sophisticated machine learning to identify devices in the home. You'll know if you turned off the clothes dryer before leaving the house, and can set alerts to tell you if the coffeemaker is still on. You’ll know how much energy your home consumes daily, weekly and monthly. Sense lets you set goals to reduce energy usage and make your home more efficient and safer. Nice side effect: you save money.
Sense helps with home safety, too. One Dad in North Carolina tracks his two teenage daughters' hair irons in the Sense app and sends them a reminder text at school if he sees they’ve left them on!
Other Sense customers have discovered that an appliance is running repeatedly, which alerts them to potential home emergencies. See this customer story about a runaway sump pump. Sense can be used to figure out how much energy their hot water heater is using and whether it’s time to replace it to save money.
The Sense monitor is available on Amazon for $299 and Sense Solar is available for solar homes.
