Consumer Critique: Sprout Foods

Sprout Foods creates plant-based baby and toddler food. Twelve new purees and snacks made their debut at this year’s Natural Products Expo West Conference. The new products deliver multiple benefits, including multi-source protein formats, dairy-free alternatives, and clean ingredient snacks made with real fruits & vegetables.
The company was first to market with a complete line of Plant Powered purees & snacks, All of Sprout’s new purees and snacks deliver on the company’s ongoing commitment of providing high-quality, nutrient-dense organic food products that help children eat and live healthier lives.
I had a chance to sample the new offerings - and honestly, they don't have to be just for babies and toddlers. Even a little bit older kids will benefit from the healthy options available.
NEW POUCHES
Bone Broth Protein – the first line of baby food purees made with bone broth protein from organic chicken and beef broth. Each pouch provides 2 grams of meat protein in a gentle, easily-digestible format for babies. Available in Butternut Carrot & Apple with Beef Broth and Homestyle Vegetables & Pear with Chicken Broth. These were actually not bad tasting. I wouldn't buy them for my older kids, but when they were younger I definitely would have been interested.
Smoothies – two yogurt-based options and two dairy-free, coconut-milk based options satisfy a variety of diet choices. I love the contents of these pouches: whole, organic fruits, vegetables, and flax seed. These I would buy to toss in lunchboxes, or even my own lunch! The coconut flavor wasn't really strong, so it was kind of fun to try for something different.
Plant Powered Protein – two new flavors (Strawberry Apple Beet Red Beans and Apricot Banana Chickpea Fig) join Sprout’s line of Plant-Powered baby food. Also not bad-tasting, especially if you're raising a little vegetarian. It's a little weird to try out baby food, but I always figured I wouldn't feed my kids anything I wasn't willing to eat myself!
NEW SNACKS
Wafflez – Recognized as a 2019 NEXTY award finalist, Sprout Organic Wafflez are a shelf-stable, oven-baked waffle snack for toddlers made with European stoneground wheat flour, real fruits & vegetables, whole organic eggs, and Certified Sustainable palm oil. Each box contains five individually-wrapped waffles and is the perfect handheld snack for tiny hands. These were tasty flavors, and I loved that the snacks included some fruit and vegetable nutrition. They're convenient (although I don't always like individually wrapped snacks, I do use them on occasion) and they're pretty good!
Teetherz – Sprout’s new quick-dissolve teething wafers are gentle on baby’s gums and have an easy-to-hold shape for self-feeding. Teetherz are baked with organic jasmine rice flour and real veggies & fruits and are preserved only with organic rosemary. These taste good - and will definitely be good toddlers for babies just learning to feed themselves.
