Now, just so that no one gets this and doesn't know what they're getting into - this book is fun the way that math nerds are fun. There is a higher level of math in this book, so it's not a book for the faint of heart when it comes to equations and numbers - and it's definitely not a book for kids, even though it uses Star Wars, LEGO, and rubber ducks. However, for fellow math nerds, this is a good read.
The book assumes readers are at a certain level of math, but then uses intriguing examples that aren't boring - like the probability of a UFO landing in your yard, what the odds were of Han Solo surviving the flight through the asteroid belt, and more. The off-the-wall examples help make it easier to remember, and for people who need to strengthen their ability to work with numbers, the book will explain how to:
- Measure your own level of uncertainty in a conclusion or belief
- Calculate Bayes theorem and understand what it’s useful for
- Find the posterior, likelihood, and prior to check the accuracy of your conclusions
- Calculate distributions to see the range of your data
- Compare hypotheses and draw reliable conclusions from them
If numbers are your idea of fun and you want to learn more about statistics, check this book out!
