Owens Corning Platinum Contractors recently worked with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to provide new roofs to veterans in need and their families as part of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project.
Veteran Brian Few received a new roof on Thursday, July 11, from Tacheny Exteriors, an Owens Corning Roofing Platinum Contractor. This nationwide effort is a way to show gratitude and honor the veterans who served our country and the families who support them. Since the inception of the Owens Corning National Roof Deployment Project in 2016, more than 130 military members have received new roofs.
“This is a heartwarming project and we are honored to serve Mr. Few” said Sam Tacheny, President of Tacheny Exteriors. “As a family company, this is a great opportunity for us to showcase the values we were founded on.”
Owens Corning Roofing and its network of independent Platinum Contractors, along with support from the Owens Corning Foundation, are donating roofing materials and labor to replace roofing shingles on the homes of military veterans and their families throughout the country. Through a partnership with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity’s A Brush with Kindness program, Brian Few was selected and approved as the recipient for the roof replacement.
"We connect the dots to preserve homeownership throughout the Twin Cities," said Mike Robertson, A Brush with Kindness Program Manager at Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. “When folks from the community like Tacheny rally to the cause, it’s truly inspiring.”
I had a chance to interview Tacheny Exteriors to learn more.
How did Tacheny get involved in this program (RDP)?
While at the annual Platinum Preferred Contractor meeting with Owens Corning earlier this year, a number of Roof Deployment projects were shared with those in attendance. Quite honestly, these stories touched us in a way that we called our Owens Corning rep, while in the seminar, to tell him we wanted to do the next house for Minnesota. Tacheny has always held a strong belief in supporting our local community. What better way to do that than by supporting a local veteran, someone who was willing to sacrifice everything for our nation's freedom?
What is the most rewarding thing about being involved with a program like this?
Quite simply, helping to serve those who have served us. It's a true and sincere blessing to help someone in need.
