Book Nook: Helping You Reach Your Goals

I recently had the chance to review several books designed to help improve a part of your life. While some are geared for teens and others for adults, they really can have a pretty brought appeal, depending on the person.

A practical and motivational book: Habits for Success – Inspired Ideas to Help You Soar is the perfect blueprint to help manifest a life of progress, purpose and fulfillment. Author G. Brian Benson offers an informative, inspiring and unique look at growth, self-awareness and success.
A self-help book for an authentic life: Habits for Success was written creatively, consciously and with heart. Using his own growth process, triumphs and hero’s journey, the author weaves authenticity and vulnerability into his habits, ideas and stories to entertain and inspire the reader.
Increase your self-awareness, manifest your dreams: Habits for Success is written in laymen’s terms but with an incredible amount of depth, allowing the reader to reach new levels of understanding and growth. It is a wonderful mix of heart, informative ideas and entertaining journey. It is a self-help book that doesn’t feel like one. I liked this one. It encourages the reader to be self-aware, and like any self-help book, there's going to be something in it that doesn't resonate with all readers. However, it's an easy to book to read, with insights that are general enough to apply to anyone, yet specific enough to be tangible and practical.

Heart, Sass & Soul: Journal Your Way to Inspiration and Happiness By Greta Solomon

Discover who you are: Writing for yourself is an incredible way to heal your heart, find happiness, and reconnect with the things that matter most. Journaling and freewriting can bring you a deeper level of self-awareness, allowing you to truly know who you are. Heart, Sass & Soul will show you how to develop a writing practice that nurtures inner strength and promotes a rich, fulfilled life.
Recover the joy of creative self-expression: As kids, many of us had vibrant imaginations and our lives were full of creativity. Over time, that self-expression gets lost in the busy routine of everyday life. But it doesn’t have to be that way. The tips, techniques, and exercises for freewriting in this book will help you tap into that creativity deep in your soul.
Writing can be your best self-care therapy: Most of us, at some point in our lives, will lose something we truly love. That time in-between jobs, friends, relationships, homes, or whatever else, is the “great unknown.” Contrary to what some may tell you, this is not the time to make major, life-changing decisions. In the midst of loss and grief, you need self-care more than ever. In fact, the best thing to do in these times is write.
A new approach to finding happiness: If you love self-help books for women like Start Where You ArePractice You, and 52 Lists for Happiness, you’ll love this new approach. Heart, Sass, & Soul is not a journal. It’s a method for writing freely that will change the way you live.

What I liked about this book is it didn't have a specific agenda. Sometimes we don't know what we need, we just know we need something. This is a book that can help people begin a writing habit that can be a powerful form of self-expression and self-therapy, whether someone is looking to improve creativity, get out of a funk, or improve attitude.

This book is great for me as a teacher - most of the time I feel like I'm a fairly effective speaker, but once in a while things fall flat or I really need a way to improve. This was a good read as I'm looking towards the start of a new school year to help improve my classroom presence.

Updated and redesigned Sean Covey classic

Sean Covey has helped countless teens make better decisions and improve their sense of self-worth.
A Self-Guided Workbook for Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey is a short, quick, and user friendly companion to the bestselling The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. This compact workbook provides the same engaging activities, interactives, and self-evaluations, but now it's graphically more engaging to help teens understand and apply the power of the Habits.

I have read the 7 Habits books, both the original and the one for teens, but it was a while ago. This works as either a complement to the book to reinforce what's in it, or as a shorter way to get the nuts and bolts. It has an easy-to-read, engaging design, with evaluations and activities to help teens develop better habits.
