Book Nook: Art Starts in the Heart

I had a chance to review a lovely, inspirational art book, Art Starts in the Heart.

This book is appropriate for budding artists, with descriptions of tools and materials (pencils, pens, inks, watercolors, markers) and techniques (composition, layout, lettering, color). It's also appropriate for those who have ideas on those basic skills but need a few ideas to boost their creativity.

I liked the techniques in the book - frames, word art, and so much more. There's a lot of room for creativity within the prompts, and it was a good way for me to encourage my daughter to draw things besides animals and dragons!

Artist Erin McManness is a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, where she earned a master's degree in illustration. She has been living and working in the arts in the Atlanta area for 6 years and is currently running her own business, stationery, and illustration line, Paper Raven Co. McManness works on a variety of different projects in addition to her paper goods line, taking on books, murals, branding projects, home decor projects, and advocating for the development of the arts in Atlanta neighborhoods.
