Caring Causes: Maternity Worldwide

Many people will have made plans to celebrate Mother’s Day with their mums this Sunday, perhaps visiting a favourite restaurant or having a family gathering at home – but unfortunately to help reduce the threat and impact of coronavirus you may have had to cancel these plans.
As Europe moves to introduce social distancing in an attempt to reduce the impact on our health services, think about the potential impact the virus is going to have on already vulnerable communities in countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. How do you wash your hands thoroughly for 20 seconds if you have no access to running water (never mind sanitiser)? What if you already struggle to access health services which are under-resourced, don’t have the necessary equipment or drugs and do not have any functioning ventilators?
Without considering coronavirus, every day across the world 800 women die in pregnancy or childbirth. 99% of these deaths occur in low income countries and sadly many young children also die following the death of their mother. Our current projects in Africa make a real difference to the lives of women and their families.  They address each of the barriers women face when trying to access safe childbirth using a sustainable integrated approach which will make a lasting difference.
Their online certificates are available instantly and can be customised with your personal message then emailed directly to the recipient – so they are the perfect last-minute gift.
