Fun Freetime: Exploratorium Online Toolbox

The Exploratorium recently announced the release of a new online learning toolbox featuring free science activities and materials addressing timely public health topics around COVID-19, as well as general science support activities and materials for virtual classrooms and at-home learning.
The collection of activities, videos, and articles for learners of all ages address public health questions such as the nature of viruses, the effect of soap on viruses, how we test for and fight against viruses, as well as the science of our personal and social behaviors and interactions.
“We believe that learning through evidence and experience can give people the tools to understand natural phenomena, whether it’s a viral pandemic or science around their city,” said Rob Semper, Chief Science Officer of the Exploratorium. “In these challenging times for our state, our nation, and our world, we want to offer educators, parents, and curious people—wherever they may be—a set of tools to help keep learning alive. Teaching and learning at the Exploratorium extends far beyond our physical walls.”
In addition to resources related to the science of viruses, the Exploratorium has also posted 285 teacher-tested science activities, Science Snacks, that utilize cheap, readily available materials and can be done easily at home. Science Snacks address many general science topics, including chemistry, physics, astronomy, biology, visual perception, environmental science and more.
Science educators at the Exploratorium will continue to update and add resources to the learning toolbox in the coming weeks. Users can keep track of updates by following the Exploratorium on Twitter and #ExploEDU.
