Fun Freetime: On Her Turf

NBC Sports will present “On Her Turf: Inspiring Greatness” this Sunday, May 10, beginning at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN. The three-hour special is a compilation of stories, defining moments and conversations that have helped shape sports over the last 20 years on NBC while also highlighting Mother’s Day and recognizing first responders. From game-changers to championship moms, ones to watch to breathtaking moments, “On Her Turf: Inspiring Greatness” spans numerous sports and athletes.
During the broadcast, fans will hear from 12-time Olympic swimming medalist Dara Torres, alpine skiing Olympic gold medalist  Lindsey Vonn, race car driver Hailie Deegan, and Olympic ice hockey gold medalists Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and Monique Lamoureux-Morando as they discuss their careers and what the new normal looks like for them. In addition, motorsports executive Kelley Earnhardt Miller will talk with her brother, NBC Sports’ Dale Earnhardt Jr., about her early years in racing and managing a NASCAR team. Jac Collinsworth will speak with Olympic alpine skiing gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin about the emotional year 2020 has been and how she has been offering her own form of hope to first responders.
Spotlighted moments will include Simone Biles’ gold medal-winning performance in the women’s all-around at the Rio Olympics; Serena Williams and Venus Williams competing together for the 1999 French Open women’s doubles title and against each other in the women’s singles final at the 2002 French Open; track and field star, Tatyana McFadden with inspiring performances at the Rio Paralympics in 2016 and the Boston Marathon in 2018; and golfer Michelle Wie West with a win at the 2014 LPGA Lotte Championship; and many more.
“I’m proud to be a part of the collective effort that is ‘On Her Turf: Inspiring Greatness’ as we celebrate women across the world and give a special nod to first responders,” said Rene Hatlelid, Producer, NBC Sports. “It’s inspiring to see how much women have accomplished in sport and in everyday life. I hope everyone watching on Mother’s Day is inspired to do something great in their communities.”
Leading up to the special program, Allyson Felix, Mikaela Shiffrin and Hilary Knight will be going live on the On Her Turf Instagram account to tease what fans can expect during the show. Mikaela will be live with Rebecca Lowe at 3 p.m. ET, Hilary will be live with Kathryn Tappen at 5:30 p.m. ET, and Allyson will be live at 7 p.m. ET. 
Earlier in the afternoon, the 2018 Olympic women’s hockey gold medal game between the U.S. and Canada will air this Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on NBC. Behind the game-winning shootout goal by Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson, the Americans won, 3-2, to claim their second-ever Olympic gold medal.
The broadcast will have numerous new elements, including NBC Sports’ NHL host Kathryn Tappen interviewing Team USA captain Meghan Duggan on her memories about the gold medal game and celebrating Mother’s Day as both a mother and as a daughter. NBC’s broadcast will also feature a Mother’s Day tribute essay penned by Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, as well as a profile on American forward Hilary Knight, who scored the opening goal for Team USA in the 2018 gold medal game.
Sunday night’s program is presented by On Her Turf, NBC Sports’ female empowerment brand.
