Drs. Adam and Lauren Block noticed a lack of resources in children’s literature that addressed the COVID-19 pandemic from a scientific standpoint. They worked together to create, “Kelly Stays Home: The Science of Coronavirus”, a free and engaging ebook to teach their own kids the science behind the Coronavirus infection, symptoms and treatment.
The doctors are offering this resource as a community outreach tool to teach children the principles of transmission, social distancing and herd immunity. Parents and kids of various ages are able to read and see informative pictures about why they need to wash their hands and stay home from school.
The e-book is available for free PDF download on the site, www.KellyStaysHome.com, with options for “big kids” (7-11 y/o) and “little kids” (3-6 y/o).
Lauren Block, M.D., M.P.H., is a primary care physician at Northwell Health and an associate professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and her husband, Adam E. Block, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of public health at New York Medical College.
