ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Carolyn Sloan is the author of Welcome to the Symphony and Welcome to Jazz. A songwriter and musician, she writes music for theater, television, and children. She is also a music educator at the Berkeley Carroll School in Brooklyn, NY, where she lives with her family. As a teacher and conductor, Carolyn values having children experience music through the joy of actual music-making, teaching them to compose, play, sing, explore, and listen with a critical ear.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
In this interactive swing-along picture book with 12 sounds chips, kids hear the instruments of jazz—the rhythm section with its banjo, drums, and tuba, and the leads like the hornet, trumpet, and trombone, along with scat—improvised melodies with nonsense syllables along the way, they learn about the rich history of jazz through a vibrant picture book story.
