Book Nook: Books for Dog Lovers from Workman Publishing

We love our Golden. My parents and brothers all own dogs too, so we're often trading dog jokes and pictures and training tricks. So I was happy to get to review a few dog-related books from Workman Publishing.

This was a great book for us. Our dog is just over a year old, so we have the basics down, but not a lot more. My two daughters trade off on working with her each day on tricks - review and new ones - and this was a great book to give us ideas for some creative new tricks. Some of them overlap tricks we've seen in other books, but some we hadn't seen before or thought of yet. The book does a great job of explaining the trick, and providing the steps to incrementally get the dog to get closer and closer to the desired action without stressing the dog with expecting too much right away.

This is a great gift book. It's cute and full of little life lessons that are true, sometimes funny, sometimes thoughtful. It's easy to read, and makes a great little gift for any dog lover.

Painting by Sticker is one way to make a work of art without mess. It's like a paint-by-number or color-by-number, only using shaped stickers. Depending on your personality, it can be either tedious or satisfying. The diagrams are easy to follow and the created art is fun to see.
I think it's satisfying to watch it slowly take shape, and the size of each artwork means that they don't take so long that it's incredibly boring. It's actually a good option for travel as well - a no-mess way to stay busy that doesn't take up a lot of space.
