Book Nook: STEM Books from Workman Publishing

As a math teacher and homeschooling parent, I love things that will help keep my kids'' brains engaged. I recently had the chance to see two books from Workman Publishing that cover STEM topics in very different ways.

This is a great book for any kid who likes to explorer the more disgusting side of life - snot, for example. There's actually a lot of learning and science about how things work in the world and how parts of our body work, and the experiments can be done with pretty common supplies found around the house or easily purchased. Directions are clear and easy to follow, and there are ample illustrations and formatting choices that make it an engaging book for kids.

This is part of a Big Fat Notebook style of book. It is certainly thick and has a ton of information, written in a way that makes sense at the middle school level. Even though computer science and coding can be really complicated, this does a pretty good job of making it accessible. It's still a challenging topic, but the format and language used are a good fit. It's a great way to introduce or review concepts related to coding - and with the amount of topics available, they have a resource for nearly every subject.
