More about The Story Pirates Story Pirates is a media company founded in 2004 to celebrate the words and ideas of kids. It all started in a Harlem school auditorium when a group of friends put on an absurdist sketch comedy show based on stories written by kids. Since then, they’ve launched a hit radio show, the #1 podcast for kids and families, a live tour which performs from coast to coast, and a critically acclaimed middle-grade book series from Penguin Random House. Their three books – Stuck in the Stone Age, Digging up Danger, and Quest for the Crystal Crown – were all inspired by kids’ story ideas. Each book has won widespread acclaim from critics and educators for “exciting” storytelling and the inspiring Creation Zone writing prompts. Also inspired by kids’ ideas, the Story Pirates albums Nothing Is Impossible and Backstroke Raptor have won several national awards. The Story Pirates Podcast (Gimlet Media) has been streamed more than 10 million times, and it won both Webby and iHeartRadio Podcast awards for family and kids programming in 2020. The Story Pirates are proud to be a leading advocate for arts education. Through Story Pirates Changemakers, their partner non-profit, the Pirates have provided life-changing literacy and creative writing programs in New York and Los Angeles to thousands of kids in Title I schools, hospitals, and homeless shelters.Kids everywhere are invited to submit their own story ideas.
