Featuring seasonal songs and chants, sing-a-longs, and inspiring ballads full of magic, Serpentine Music & Media’s 20th anniversary edition of Circle Round and Sing! arrives at just the right time. In a world of uncertainty and turmoil, the reassurance of nature’s rhythms and appreciation for the Earth itself helps young children to feel centered, safe, and grounded. With charming, original lyrics and music written and performed by Anne Hill, Circle Round! celebrates the moon’s phases; summers, sunset, and rain; the ocean’s marvel; and the ordinary magic of everyday life. This album was originally conceived as an audio companion to Anne Hill’s co-authored 2008 children’s book Circle Round (Random House), which has been continuously in print since it first appeared. Circle Round and Sing! features a new track originated by Sweet Honey in the Rock, set to a poem by 19th century mystic Khalil Gibran.
“Childhood is becoming so short,” says singer/songwriter Anne Hill. “My intention with updating and re-releasing Circle Round and Sing! is not only to help families honor the innocence of childhood — but also of the moon and stars, the Earth herself, and the cycles of life of which we are all a part. Instead of exploiting them as mini-consumers, let’s give our children the gift of uplifting songs that suffuse their world with magic and imagination. Especially in this moment, I am honored to help connect families around nature, core beliefs, and expressions of hope. I’m so excited that my grandchildren’s generation will now have a chance to enjoy these easy-to-learn and joyful songs.”
“So great to find meaningful lyrics and music my baby and I both want to listen to.
Wish there were more just like this!” — Amazon Verified Purchase, Jan. 27, 2020
Now including a special version of Sweet Honey in the Rock’s “On Children,” Circle Round and Sing! includes such songs as “Persephone Song,” “Ocean Lullabye,” “Place of Power,” and “When You’re Magic,” among its 20 tracks. Available for purchase as a CD or as a download, this remastered album makes a perfect gift for a family welcoming a new baby or who are deep amid life with an energetic toddler.
“I know how children love to repeat and replay songs,” Hill says. “My goal was to write songs that parents and children alike will enjoy singing together — no matter how often they hear them.”
