I recently had the chance to review two new books for artists, Craft Lab for Kids and Fashion Design Workshop: Remix.
Both books are great ways to keep kids engaged in a creative way. Craft Lab for Kids: 52 DIY Projects to Inspire, Excite, and Empower Kids to Create Useful, Beautiful Handmade Goods has tons of different craft ideas, most of which I hadn't run across before. The bright, clear photographs and easy-to-understand directions mean that kids of all ages will be able to use this book. The projects are engaging enough that younger kids would be able to do a decent job but they would still provide ample room for the creativity and skills of over kids.
Fashion Design Workshop: Remix: A modern, inclusive, and diverse approach to fashion illustration for up-and-coming designersis really quite appropriate for today's world. It has a focus on being inclusive - creating fashion sketches that don't just incorporate a skinny white model. The book has pages about adaptive fashion, drawing different body types, and representation of diversity. Obviously there's no room to include all the different types of people in the world, but it is a great book for starting to encourage kids to think about fashion for all. Any kid who's interested in fashion design can learn a lot from this book.
