Book Nook: Grace Not Perfection for Young Readers - Believing You're Enough in a World of Impossible Expectations
I recently had the chance to review a new young readers book by popular author and organizational expert, Emily Ley — Grace, Not Perfection for Young Readers: Believing You're Enough in a World of Impossible Expectations.
The book is engaging - colorful, full of photos, but not so busy that it's distracting. It's designed to give tween girls ways to take control of their lives. As the world seems to keep getting busier, the book has tangible steps for how to reclaim time.
I love that the focus isn't on being perfect. Instead, it's about getting rid of things that aren't realistic, things that aren't fulfilling, things that put too much pressure on tween girls. It's not that we can't have any of the fluff in our lives, but this gives ways to make sure that there's time for what's really important. It helps kids realize that they don't have to be part of everything, that they can overcome FOMO, and that simplifying life means looking at three areas - space, time, and mind. It was a great book for my middle school girls to read as they start to look towards the future and the time when they'll need to run their own lives.
