National Today — the internet's #1 authority on holidays — has some recommendations on how to celebrate:
National Son and Daughter Day- August 11
National Son and Daughter Day is celebrated annually on August 11. This family holiday reminds us to take a step back from the whirlwind of paying the bills, surviving the maelstrom of current events, and meeting what seem to be thousands of daily obligations, and spend time with our children. Sometimes the best way to say "I love you" is by being available and letting the youngsters take the lead. Whatever your children like to do, you can rock this holiday by showing up with your natural excitement for their successes.
International Youth Day- August 12
International Youth Day on August 12 focuses on the difficulties that some young people are experiencing throughout the world. Half the children between the age of six and 13 lack basic reading and math skills and childhood poverty is still a prevalent problem globally. International Youth Day was created by the UN to help draw awareness to these issues as we strive to find solutions. Get involved and start a round-table discussion between adults and young people. This can be between parents and children or students and teachers. Come up with topics revolving around the theme of the year and really listen to what the younger generation has to say.
National Middle Child Day- August 12
If you have siblings, you know the rivalry can get real. Whether or not “Middle Child Syndrome” is real, it’s true that middle children, particularly in large families, can get overlooked in the hustle and bustle of daily life. Whether or not you have a middle child in your family, it’s never a bad time to reach out to your siblings and say hello.
