I recently had a chance to review The Future of Science is Female: The Brilliant Minds Shaping the 21st Century. This was a great book for my family to read.
I love science, and I am a mother of two daughters. Fortunately, they've had strong STEM role models - I teach math and am interested in science, and my mom teaches math and science. In addition, they've had a female science teacher and know several females in their lives that work in STEM careers. However, not everyone is fortunate to have that kind of access to role models like that. And even for students who do, it's good to have historical role models as well.
That's not to say that this isn't a book just for girls. If anything, it's equally important for boys to read about female scientists. After all, girls learn about male scientists.
The book profiles scientists in many different areas of science, all in a tone that is easy (and fast) to read, but still full of information.
