Did you know only 45% of high schools offer coding classes even though 90% of parents want to see that included in their children's education? CodeWizardsHQ have offered live, online coding classes for the last six years. They have experienced teachers on a reliable platform that parents love. Plus it’s a ton of fun for the kids, with lots of projects and games!
I had a chance to do an interview to learn more.
Why are coding skills so helpful for kids to learn, even if they aren't currently interested in a career in computers?
There are so many reasons! Let me give you a couple! First, interested in a career in computers or not, we're living in a digital age. Increasingly, we find computers integrating more and more into every facet of our lives. It is worthwhile to have some degree of awareness with how these computers operate. This is called digital literacy. Even if a kid isn't getting a career in computers, they will very likely get a career where they use computers.
Second, when we're talking about coding, we are preparing them for success in college and career. They are learning a skill that improves their problem-solving, communication, teamwork, comprehension ... all of which will benefit them in the future.
Third, we're talking about learning another language. So it has many of the same benefits as learning a second language. Learning coding requires the mind to conceptualize thoughts in a different framework. In order to code, kids have to understand how the computer processes information and structure the information in that way. This is the same thing that happens in spoken languages and the same benefits come into play: people learn how to think in new ways, increasing their cognitive ability to think outside of the box, problem solve, and develop creative and innovative solutions.
Lastly, before I point you to our post on 26 Reasons Why Kids Should Learn to Code, coding is a fun hobby that builds character as it promotes critical thinking, reasoning skills, attention to detail, and perseverance.

How can parents encourage interest in coding skills, even if they don't know much about coding themselves?
It can be really daunting to try and help a child enter into an unfamiliar hobby or skill. The easiest way to do this is by having experienced people come alongside you. As far as initial motivation, this could be watching videos online about how others got into coding or it could be reading books featuring coding.
But the easiest way is by finding instructors who can open a new world to your children. They'll show your kids why coding is interesting and how to do it. Moreover, they're another positive influence in your child's life. When kids have adults investing in them, when they have adults who believe in them, it gets them to believe in themselves, and kids who believe in themselves can do great things!
As they're in the coding classes, parents can continue to encourage by learning basic coding terms so they can discuss with their kids the projects and games they've been doing in class. Parents can also utilize the progress report we give after every class, along with the class video and homework files, to stay in the loop and involved!
What sets CodeWizardsHQ apart from other coding education platforms?
CodeWizardsHQ has been doing live, online classes for 6 years. This means we've been teaching online the longest, unlike other companies that are just starting in response to a crisis. We have experienced teachers on a reliable platform parents and kids both love.
We offer the most beyond the classroom services, such as live office hours, daily homework help, community forum, unlimited access to our proprietary coding platform, recordings and pdf slides for every class!
I also really love our internship program. We're the only coding school to offer this! We have an excellent program for our high school age students who have completed Level 3 to prepare them for college and career. They get partnered with a non-profit to gain real life experience that will make their college application stand out!
