Magnetic Me was officially founded 10 years ago in 2010 by Lauren Levy, a former investment banker, and, Lawrence Scheer, a former corporate attorney, two friends met in college and moved to New York City to build their – what at the time seemed - promising financial and legal careers. Yet as purpose-driven individuals – who consider themselves more quirky than corporate - they realized they wanted something with more meaning, and realized a shared mission to help parents and babies.

What inspired the creation of the baby apparel brand and its proprietary, innovative magnetic technology was an “a-ha!” moment Lauren had when struggling to put a Velcro bib on her nephew as he wiggled and squirmed.   He cried as the scratchy Velcro ripped out his fine baby hair. Shortly after, when she went to change him, she felt a chill in the air due thanks to a drafty door.  While quickly trying to dress him, she misaligned the snaps and had to redo it, causing her nephew to continue crying while she continued to stress.  This was quite a traumatic experience for Lauren, only made worse with her sister getting upset too.  She instantly asked herself, “Why not a magnet, which would be gentler and quickly fasten itself with basically no effort?”

The Birth of Our Proprietary and First-Ever Magnetic Closures

Magnetic Me introduced its first layette line with its very own magnetic-fastening closure system, called SewSafe™, designed to reduce the stress parents and their babies feel at changing time, often wrought with discomfort from traditional fasteners. Magnetic Me magnets mean no more snaps, no more scratches, no more hair pulling and best of all, no more tears.   The Magnetic Me proprietary magnetic-fastening system and “no pull-over-the-head” designs are especially helpful for new moms and dads…and for grandparents that want to bond with their grandbaby but don’t have the dexterity for snaps and buttons.

A Commitment to Sustainable and Eco Friendly Fabrics

As a socially responsible company, all Magnetic Me fabrics are eco-friendly with its organic cottons GOTS-certified (the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain).

Another eco-friendly fabric of choice is Modal, chosen specifically over bamboo, because it’s safe, durable and eco-friendly while being very soft in touch. Modal is sustainably harvested in the Black Forest of Germany and has amazing properties like breathability and moisture wicking making it warm in winter and cool in summer.

While the main focus at Magnetic Me is centered around its proprietary SewSafe™ magnetic technology, the unique and custom designs of its prints and patterns are also a priority and something the brand takes great pride in.
