Fintech firm Troutwood has launched the first in a series of apps designed to give Gen Z and Millennials a savings and investing advantage. The app, called Time Portal, leverages the power of smart phone technology to let the user custom-pick any period in history to see how an investment in the stock market might have worked.
“When you educate you start with the basics,” said Gene Natali, Troutwood’s CEO. “Through Time Portal, we’re able to show how the stock market has performed in every career cycle, from 1926 through 2019. It’s powerful to see investment returns presented within this context.”
Jeff Davidek, Troutwood’s Chief Strategists added, “Time Portal gives people confidence. Whatever fears you may have today, it’s likely played out before, at some point in history. Time Portal allows for precise investment modeling around events like the Great Depression, World War 2, Polio, 9/11, the 2008 financial crisis and soon Covid-19. Most importantly, it shows how investors who stuck with it were able to recover and continue growing wealth.”
The objective of the Time Portal app and all of Troutwood’s offerings is to create a new generation of savvy savers and long-term investors. Long-term being critical. Time Portal helps to make the lessons of history more accessible and it removes the mystery and the confusion that tend to intimidate first-time investors.
“Few things are more personal and important to people than their money,” said Natali. “As a population, we generally shy away from having this conversation and have misunderstood how investing works. For that reason, it’s been difficult for many to gain the financial strength that they may have wanted, or otherwise might have attained.”
“We’re working to change that, starting with high school students, college students and younger workers,” said Davidek.
Troutwood’s Time Portal enables users to customize the time periods they want to explore and experiment with the full range of scenarios to see how much they could have saved and made if they started with just one dollar per day.
“Beta users have told us that what makes the app so addictive is its flexibility,” Natali added. “You can start at birth or graduation to compare possible outcomes. You can plug in personalized dollar figures and see how a steady program of saving, no matter how modest, would have performed over any time period in history. Information presented this way helps to remove some of the uncertainty and anxiety around investing.”
The Time Portal app is the first app developed by Troutwood. The company has designed a proprietary three-step process intended to help individuals create their own plan to achieve financial empowerment.
“Everything we create is designed to inspire non-investors and first-time investors to want to learn more, and to then go do it,” Natali said.
