Parenting Pointers: Tips For Moving House With A Baby

It’s no secret that moving house can be a stressful experience in many cases – and that’s without having to work around your house move with a baby in tow! Luckily, there are still a few things you can do in order to make sure that having your little one with you on moving day isn’t quite as stressful as you might first imagine.

Here are just a few of our tips for moving house with a baby.

Keep Their Things Until Last

During the packing process, try to keep many of your baby’s essentials unpacked until moving day. This should include their cot, their high-chair, toys… anything that your baby needs on the day-to-day to keep them happy. While keeping these things out until moving day could mean having to pack away other things earlier than you’d like in order to save time, you’ll thank yourself for it in the few days before the big move.

Find A Space For Them

Put together a secure space for your baby to stay whilst you’re trying to get moving jobs done. This could be a playpen or a cot in your living area, among other things, but having somewhere for your baby to stay in sight but out of the way whilst you’re getting everything ready will ease your mind and your workload. The last thing you need is your baby crawling around when your moving services arrive!

Keep Things Normal

While it can be tricky, try to keep to usual nap times and feeding times as much as you possibly can. This may mean taking occasional breaks from moving tasks to tend to your little one, but it will keep them calmer and quieter and will therefore keep moving day a little more stress-free.

Don’t forget that routines aren’t just important for new babies – they’re important for new parents too.

Call On Friends Or Family

Whilst not everyone can do this, it could be really helpful to you if you’re able to call on the assistance of friends and family, either with looking after your baby or helping with the packing and moving. It isn’t going to be possible in every case, but if you can do this, it will lighten your workload a lot!

Keep A Well-Packed Baby Bag With You

Pack a baby bag full of all the essentials your baby might need throughout moving day – bottles, diapers, spare clothes, toys – and any essentials that you might need for yourself, too. For instance, it’s a good idea to pack some on-the-go food, as you will have little time to eat between looking after your baby and handling moving day. Being well-prepared and having easily accessible essentials on hand will make things a lot less stressful in the long run!
