On the rise Country music artist and songwriter, Allie Colleen, performed at a benefit in July 2018 to raise funds for Sea Turtle Recovery, a Non Profit Organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of sea turtles and providing public outreach. In May 2019 she was honored to partner with them and include her single, “Take Up Your Arms,” an anthem song about fighting for the good in the world featured in a promotional video bringing awareness to the organization. As a special opportunity to share the outreach and incredible care of the turtles, Allie invited her Facebook fans to join her in a virtual tour of the Sea Turtle Recovery state of the art facility located within the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo. During the special event, her fans were given the honor to give the name Olaf to one of the two Sea Turtle Recovery’s two critically endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtles. Both of these sea turtles washed ashore cold stunned due to failing to migrate to warmer water before temperatures became too cold. Donate to this cause to help pay for food, medicine, bloodwork, and other needs for Olaf and other sea turtle patients at seaturtlerecovery.org/donate and receive a special Allie Colleen signed magnet for "adopting" Olaf. “I absolutely adore Brandi and Bill. I am so blown away by their work and their efforts every single day to take care of lives that are not their own," expressed Allie Colleen. "When I was on the phone with Brandi and Bill trying to schedule a good night to do this live, I asked them what a good time would be because I wanted to make sure they would still be at the clinic and hadn’t gone home yet. Brandi without missing a beat casually said “oh well we haven’t gone home in two days, we’re kind of here all the time so literally anytime works!” — that is how hard these two work. I am honored to support their cause in any way I can.”
“Allie has, for years now, continued to help Sea Turtle Recovery save threatened and endangered sea turtles. She is an inspiration not only for her music, but also for her compassion for wildlife,” shared Sea Turtle Recovery Co-Executive Officer - Brandi Biehl. “Sea Turtle Recovery is humbled by her love for our patients, and we are proud to consider her part of STR's family. Olaf will be lucky to have Allie in his corner."
Allie Colleen is passionate about the earth and saving our natural resources and has worked with the organization for fundraising efforts in the past. About Sea Turtle Recovery:
Sea Turtle Recovery, STR, is a 501(c)(3) Non Profit Organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of sea turtles and providing public outreach. The Sea Turtle Recovery Center is a 4,000 square foot, state of the art facility located within the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo. STR’s life support system uses UV and ozone to provide a safe environment for the sea turtles to heal until they can be released. Prior to Sea Turtle Recovery’s opening, endangered and threatened sea turtles that stranded in New Jersey due to illness or injury could be stabilized in New Jersey but, if they needed long term care, had to be transferred out of state. These sea turtles had to endure long transports as far south as North Carolina. Also, each year the increased sea turtle strandings in the Northeast Region of the United States caused several facilities to reach capacity. With this occurring, it did not leave available space for New Jersey’s stranded sea turtles. Sea Turtle Recovery was created to help these turtles in need. Another obstacle in New Jersey was the lack of information and educational resources available to the public regarding sea turtles. The Sea Turtle Recovery was established to create a voice for sea turtles in NJ. Now, STR ensures that sea turtles receive the necessary care here in NJ, and we are working to expand our education program in the state. Sea Turtle Recovery was started by two marine scientists that wanted to do more to help save endangered and threatened sea turtles in New Jersey. Bill Deerr and Brandi Biehl both received their Bachelor’s degrees in Marine Science and have dedicated their lives to saving marine species. Each Co-Executive Officer has years of experience and training with marine mammals and sea turtles. Teaming up with a group of individuals that have committed their time and energy to ensuring that sea turtles have a future, Sea Turtle Recovery was founded, creating the first long term sea turtle hospital in New Jersey. In 2016, STR and Essex County Turtle Back Zoo joined together for conservation. The Turtle Back Zoo donated a 4,000 sq foot facility and in return, STR provides outreach and sea turtle rehabilitation inside the zoo. Now we need your help to continue providing the best care possible for these endangered and threatened species. Together, we can make a difference for sea turtles!
