Soul Sustenance: Staying Connected to Each Other

As we close out 2020 and enter 2021 (finally!), I want to share a message that is meant to foster a more welcoming nation where everyone feels they belong, regardless of their background or where they are born. As parents, we know that inclusion is an important part of our vernacular with our children. Please check out “Belonging Begins with Us” here.

As Covid-19 has made inclusion tough, from greeting a new neighbor to even our kids going back to school, the Ad Council has created this campaign (in addition to the PSA), to help foster small acts of kindness that can make a big impact. To name a few…

  • Send a note to a new neighbor or colleague asking to connect remotely for coffee
  • Join a dog walking group and get to know other dog owners in your community
  • Build a little free library in your yard and share your stories of beginning with people in the neighborhood

With these ideas and more which you can explore here, the Ad Council, a non-profit where creativity meets causes, has created messages and slogans that have been woven into the fabric of American culture since 1941. This campaign is built on the idea that we all know what it feels like to feel left out – which means we all have the power to help others feel like they belong. By highlighting this shared emotional experience, the campaign sparks empathy and strengthens connections between everyone who calls America home.
