Book Nook: The Adventures of Sergeant Piggy

The Adventures of Sergeant Piggy
is a lighthearted story about a strong, compassionate protagonist who loves to go on adventures.

Bill Muir is a Registered Nurse and former US ARMY Paratrooper. Amid the global pandemic, Muir wanted to create a place for children to be reminded of the awesomeness of exploring the world and of the importance of taking care of the planet.

Author of The Adventures of Sergeant Piggy, Bill Muir said, “The book is a lighthearted story about a strong, compassionate protagonist who loves to go on adventures. Whether you are looking for a book that touches on veganism for kids, green/plant-based healthy living, or just want to be     entertained, you and your family will enjoy reading The Adventures of Sergeant Piggy.”

The book includes themes of environmentalism, empathy, and compassion as it follows Sergeant Piggy as he saves animals and goes on exciting adventures all over the world. This book is meant to entertain and delight, as well as to introduce themes of compassion for all creatures and green living for kids ages 4 to 104.

The Adventures of Sergeant Piggy is available now on Amazon.

I had a chance to interview the author to learn more.

Why did you write this book?
I wrote this book because I wanted to create a place for children to be reminded of the awesomeness of exploring the world and of the importance of taking care of the planet

Why is it good for kids to learn about veganism, compassion, and green living?
Whitney Houston said, “I believe the children are our future,” and I couldn’t agree more. Scientists say that global warming is one of the biggest existential threats facing our planet, and that one of the greatest sources of green house gasses and pollution is animal agriculture. This makes it a very important topic for kids to learn about.

How can this book still have a strong message for families who aren't vegan?

The theme of compassion for all living creatures is universal, no matter what your diet or ideology happens to be. I don’t mention the word vegan in the book, and the animal rights message is subtle, much in the same way that it appears in the movies Babe, Bambi, Flipper, The Muppet Movie, and pretty much every kid’s movie that you can think of.
