A closet is not just another space in your house. As a place you enter every single day, it has a lot of impact on the energy and flow of your day. When creating your closet, design it in a way that keeps it both organized and inspiring. The very first thing you can do when beginning this process is shift your mindset from: " this space is not important and just needs to hold my clothes," to "this is a space I will enter every single day and I am going to create a beautiful space that makes me happy." 1. Design Your Space To Fit Your Specific Clothes Design your space to fit your specific clothes and items. Every closet should be designed differently and uniquely to fit your clothes. Where one person will mostly have dresses, another person will mostly have pants and sweaters. This is the most important part of the design process. When evaluating your space, write down every category of clothes you have and generally how much of each category you have. For example your list might look like this - THE MOST: Blouses, Sweaters MEDIUM AMOUNT: Jeans, Sweatshirts LEAST AMOUNT: T-shirts, Dresses, Now that you have your categories listed, design your closet system to fit those exact categories. If not designed accordingly, it can create a stressful domino effect. By consciously choosing the layout, you will have the proper amount of space for your long hang, short hang, and shelves for items you can fold. 2.) Repeat Step One With Accessories Now repeat step one with accessories. This includes hats, scarves, belts, purses, jewelry, etc. All those categories add up very quickly so you have to account for this in your design. List everything the same exact way you did for your clothes so you know what design accessories to add. For example if you have a lot of scarves and belts, you will want to install a rod to hold those specific items. If you have a lot of hats, you can install hooks or shelves to display them. Be conscious of the type of accessories too. If you have long cross body bags those are best hung, but if you have a lot of clutches those can fit in a container on a shelf. Same goes for hats. Baseball hats are very different from beanies or a sunhat. Taking the time to figure out exactly what you have is going to have long lasting effects on your mood and mental health every single day. When you walk into your closet and everything is beautifully organized and your closet is designed to perfectly fit YOUR items, you are going to feel less stressed, happier, and more inspired! 3.) Add Furniture Furniture helps transform your average closet into a luxury boutique inside your home. Our goal is to make the area feel less like a closet and more like its own space and room of the house. You want your closet to have its own feel and vibe. Some furniture pieces you can add are: - A full length mirror 4.) A Statement Piece Add something to your closet that screams, WOW! Some options to create this wow feeling are: Another idea is to create a statement shoe wall. This is one of my favorite things to design, and it is very simple to construct. Simply install a bunch of shelves on one wall and fill it with all your shoes. This is such an eye catcher, and it beautifully organizes all your shoes. 5.) Lighting That Makes Your Closet Shine Once your closet is designed and organized, you need to find the perfect lighting to help it shine. This can also be part of your statement piece. A delicate chandelier or accent lights add a beautiful touch to your space and is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
