Book Nook: Storyline Online

Storyline Online® videos showcase notable people reading favorite children's books. The featured books (at the top of the page) tie in to certain themes for the month, including National Siblings Day (My Rotten Redheaded Older Brother), World Art Day (When Pigasso Met Mootisse), and even Lima Bean Respect Day (A Bad Case of Stripes).

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Daytime Emmy®-nominated and award-winning children’s literacy program, Storyline Online, streams ad-free videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books aloud alongside creatively produced illustrations. Readers include Oprah Winfrey, Chris Pine, Kristen Bell, Rita Moreno, Viola Davis, Jaime Camil, Kevin Costner, Lily Tomlin, Sarah Silverman, Betty White, Wanda Sykes, and dozens more. All of the readers donate their time and talent to this project.

Storyline Online receives over 140 million views annually, and boasts over 750 million lifetime views.

Storyline Online is available 24 hours a day for children, parents, caregivers, and educators worldwide. Each book includes a free activity guide developed by a credentialed elementary educator, aimed at strengthening comprehension, and verbal and written skills for English-language learners. In addition, Storyline Online released its first Spanish-language read aloud in 2020.

Storyline Online is a labor of love of the nonprofit SAG-AFTRA Foundation, which relies entirely on gifts, grants and donations to fund Storyline Online and produce all of its content.

Reading aloud to children has been shown to improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude, as well as inspire a lifelong love of reading. Storyline Online is endorsed by the American Federation of Teachers and received the "Best Website" recognition award by the American Association of School Librarians.
