Sany Sandler, creator of Bowdabra, is a do-it-yourself craft and home décor expert for the creatively challenged. She can provide easy crafts and tips to recycle on-hand household items and upcycle them into creative craft projects and has put together several green and frugal crafting tips for Earth Day and kids crafting ideas.

Celebrate Earth Day with a Recycle Art Project

We celebrate Earth Day worldwide every year on April 22. Here’s an Earth Day recycle art project that can be adapted for kids of all ages.

“While your youngster is diving into the project, help them understand the importance of Earth Day and why it is celebrated,” Sandy suggests.

Here is a list of talking points to get started:

  • Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970, and now includes events in more than 193 countries.
  • How does recycling help the earth?
  • What can you recycle?
  • Conserving energy is good for the earth. How can you help to conserve energy?
  • What is something our family can do to reduce trash?

Supplies for your Earth Day recycled project:

Let the Earth Day art begin!

  1. Print and cut out the Earth Day and Globe Logo patterns. Depending upon the age and ability of the child, this may be an adult contribution to the project.
  2. Trace the pattern onto the plate.
  3. Cut the pattern from the plate. Again, this may be an adult contribution.
  4. Now, turn your child loose, and let them create their Earth Day art. For the youngest artist, just gluing the pattern to the plate may complete the project.

“Green crafting is a way to help sustain the environment while saving you money,” she adds.

Here are links to 3 additional upcycle craft projects including a plantable seed bomb from junk mail, a jump rope from plastic bags, and a recycled windsock!
