Viking Books for Young Readers is publishing NEVER GROW UP, a full-color picture book inspired by the magic of Roald Dahl stories and featuring all-new illustrations by Quentin Blake. NEVER GROW UP celebrates mischief-makers, rule-breakers and wild children everywhere, and inspires readers of any age to get out and embrace the boundless joy of childhood.
NEVER GROW UP celebrates “a more unusual child” – the kind who “Paints their tongue . . . And scrapes their knees . . . Then fills their underpants with bees!” Then a secret is revealed; that some of these children never grow up at all. “Just look at all the very smartest scientists and famous artists, who had the wit, the grit, the spunk to think thoughts up-till-then unthunk.”
Drawn from the mischievous ethos of Roald Dahl books for children, brought to life in Quentin Blake’s iconic illustrative style, NEVER GROW UP begs to be shared by adult and child, a timely and timeless reminder of the kind of childhood we might want to create for the next generation – a world of mischief, playfulness and experiencing the natural world.
Underlying these undeniably messy adventures is the desire for children to grow up to be inventive, daring, creative, caring about nature and thinking outside the box – even if “being bold is never breezy”.
“The future’s created by a curious
Mischievous and disobedient few
Who are (in fact) a lot like…
…YOU!”
A largely unexplored format in the world of Roald Dahl, this very special new picture book serves as the perfect introduction to one of the world’s most celebrated storytellers and champions the philosophy of Roald Dahl’s stories that the best grown-ups ‘never grow up, always down’.
NEVER GROW UP also publishes alongside THE TWITS: THE STINKY EDITION (on sale May 4), a new scratch-and-sniff paperback of Dahl’s lighthearted revenge tale, that will keep readers smiling throughout summer reading.
